LTC Cancels Sponsorship of WOW!
It is with great sadness that we learned the Laughlin Tourism
Committee (LTC), the major sponsor and beneficiary of the WOW,
decided to our surprise in June, 2002, not to renew their
sponsorship for 2003.
Without their considerable support and financial help it is
impossible for us to stage the event. This is in spite of the 2001
WOW exceeding all plans and expectations for a first event. There
were 448 vehicles displayed at the various show venues, and 77
vehicles went through the first collector car auction in the
tristate. The target, by the way, was for a total of 400
vehicles for the first year.
We are currently exploring options on other venues. Although it
will be difficult to find one more ideally suited to the WOW than
Laughlin, we are working on it. Please let us know if you have any
thoughts on the matter, or suggestions.
We are sorry not to be able to host the WOW in December, '03, as
planned, but please join us at our other events. Go to our www.DSMevents.com
site for more information.

The Laughlin Weekend of Wheels Automotive Festival
A new motorsports experience with a mobile dynamic
Laughlin, NV - Desert Steel Motorsports (DSM) of Lake Havasu City, Arizona has created an entirely new concept in automotive entertainment with the help of the Laughlin Tourism Committee and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitor Authority. It is the Laughlin Weekend of Wheels (WOW for short) and will run September 7-9, 2001. This exciting endeavor will involve all nine of the hotels and casinos in this Nevada resort town located on the warm, sandy shores of the Colorado River. It will feature dynamite motorsports activities with appeal to participants and spectators alike.
The ignition key to the WOW is that it centers around a car show... but not just any show. Over 80 classes are available for anything with an engine and will showcase various types of vehicles including street rods (early and late), trucks, race vehicles, muscle cars, '55-57 Chevrolets, Mustangs, Corvettes, motorcycles, 4 Wheel Drives, customs, T Birds, antiques, classics, moderns and more. Selected, major car clubs in the Southwest will serve as hosts at each of the hotel/casinos for the benefit of their favorite charity. The entered vehicles will be displayed on Saturday as they compete for more than 200 awards in the Show and Shines.
What makes the WOW unique is what happens next. A Grand Poker Run for big cash prizes will launch on Saturday afternoon. This will allow all participants to cruise to view the various automotive events hosted at all nine hotels (or they can leave their cars and take the provided shuttles). These include a burnout contest, monster truck demo, Vendor Village and corporate display area, Jet melt-down show, motorcycle exhibition, chassis dynamometer runs, Stock car simulator rides, and the first Silver Collector Car Auction in the area. For the smaller kids there is the WOW Model Car Contest too. This promises to be the most feature-packed automotive event in the tristate and a unique experience not to be missed by any automotive enthusiast. Truly the first car show with a mobile dynamic.
